Ingredients

  • 3.52 oz 100 g/ ¾ cup shea butter refined
  • 1 oz 28 g/ ¼ cup cocoa butter deodorized
  • 2.6 oz 75 g/ ⅓ cup apricot kernel oil you could use any lightweight oil here: argan, rosehip, jojoba, etc.
  • 1 teaspoon tapioca starch cornstarch or arrowroot powder; optional
  • ½ teaspoon of skin safe purple mica optional for color
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil

Instructions

  1. Melt cocoa butter and apricot kernel oil

in a glass container in 15-second bursts in the microwave or in a water bath over medium heat until cocoa butter is just melted. Caution: glass gets quite hot!

  2. Set aside and cool
  3. Measure out the shea butter
  4. Whip shea butter using a stand or hand mixer on high speed until it appears white, fluffy, and smooth for about 1 minute
  5. Add melted cocoa butter little by little while whipping on low speed
  6. Add essential oil, cornstarch, and mica (if using)
  7. Whip until combined

scrape the sides of the bowl with a spatula as you go.

  8. Whip until body butter holds stiff peaks
  9. Let cool fully
  10. Prevent hardening

after 12 hours check if body butter is still soft and spreadable at room temperature. If not: Add more apricot kernel oil (start with 1 tsp) and whip again, repeat the procedure until the body butter stays soft

  11. Transfer to a mason jar using a spoon or piping bag
  12. Store in a cool spot away from direct sunlight
