You have come to the right place.
Tweak and Tinker is the place where I share DIY tutorials for soaps, bath bombs, lip balms, face masks, serums and so much more
I started making my own soap and skincare in 2014 and haven't stopped ever since.
I'm a physical therapist, massage therapist, esthetician and yoga teacher by trade (I know, one would have been enough). All of this training in the health and wellness field opened my eyes to the icky "nasties" that are found in most mainstream personal care products (yes, baby products, too). I understood how chemicals get absorbed by our skin and cause damage in our bodies early on. My solution to that, back then, was to buy organic skincare at the health food store. Easy enough- but expensive too.
When I had my first child I ramped it up a notch. I got a wee bit obsessed with label reading and keeping all things deemed "nasty" away from my little nugget.
One day I went to my friend's house to pick up products that she made in her "soap kitchen". It was there, while we were sitting over a cup of tea in the midst of all of her wonderful handmade products that it hit me: I can make this myself. I can make a lip balm and know exactly what's in it. AMAZING!
Why had this never occurred to me earlier? I have no idea. I wasn't giving it much thought, I suppose.
I started ferociously researching everything I could get my eyes on about DIY bath and body. I started with soap making, and boy was I hooked - the chemistry, the colors, the scents, the additives. It was as if I had opened Pandora's box. I was in heaven. (Crazy, of all things, right? Soap? Really?) I couldn't help myself. Every spare minute was consumed with planning new soap projects and making soap - much to the dismay of my deteriorating apartment 😉
Before long I found myself with more soap than my entire family and friends would ever need. So, I did what every girl with a serious soap making problem does- I went to craft fairs and sold my goodies. That was fine for a while and helped destash my massive soap supply. What I was missing however was the connection to other crafters, the joy of sharing something I loved. I wanted to inspire others to create their own products.
That's why I started Tweak and Tinker -no more craft fairs for this gal.
By no means do I consider myself an expert. I continue to learn, and there is SO much still to learn. I would love for you to join me on this journey.
Until then. Happy Tinkering!
