These delicious 4th of July jello shots will be a big hit with party guests, both big and small. Alternating layers of fruity Jell-O and layers of sweet, creamy milk, topped with patriotic sprinkles, create the perfect festive jello shot treat.
Being alcohol-free makes them a tasty treat for kids of all ages. This fun twist on traditional vodka jello shots is a great way to celebrate the summer holidays with everyone, not just adults 😉
Just like my patriotic chocolate bark and red, white & blue Rice Krispie treats, these tasty treats are the perfect addition to any backyard BBQ, whether you're having an Independence Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day party, or just because.
The recipe for this is super easy but plan for quite a bit of extra cooling time in between each layer (2-3 hours each). For best results you probably want to let them set overnight.
Ingredients
- Blue Jello - I like blue raspberry or berry blue
- Red Jello - cherry or strawberry
- Unflavored gelatin
- Condensed milk (sweetened)
- Water - both hot and cold
- Whipped cream
- Patriotic Sprinkles
See full amounts in the recipe card.
Instructions
- Place the desired amount of plastic shot cups or glass cups on a cookie sheet for easy transportation in and out of the fridge
- Prepare Blue Layer (Bottom): Dissolve the blue jello powder in 1 cup of boiling water.
- Mix in 1 cup cold water.
- Pour the blue jello mixture into your jello shot cups, filling up to one-third of the way. Place in the refrigerator to set for about 2-3 hours.
- Prepare White Layer (Middle): Sprinkle 2 packets of unflavored gelatin over ½ cup of cold water. Let it sit for a few minutes to "bloom."
- Add 1 cup boiling water and stir until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
- Stir in the sweetened condensed milk until well-mixed. Let the mixture cool to room temperature.
- Once the blue layer of jello is set, gently pour the white gelatin mixture on top of the blue layer to fill another third of the glasses. Return to the refrigerator and let set for another 2-3 hours.
- Prepare Red Layer (Top): Dissolve the red Jell-O in 1 cup of boiling water.
- Mix in 1 cup cold water.
- Once the white layer is set, carefully add the red jello layer on top, filling up to the top of the glasses. Refrigerate until set, about 2-3 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Decorate: Just before serving, top each Jell-O shot with a small dollop of whipped cream.
- Sprinkle red, white, and blue sprinkles over the whipped cream for a festive finish.

- 1 oz shot glasses - if you're making this for a crowd, use these plastic shot glasses; I like to use small glass cups for smaller amounts.
Storage
Store them in the fridge covered with plastic wrap for 2-3 days. It's best to add whipped cream just before serving.
